Worship Arts

Shortly after arriving at South Hills, I was told by a Church member, “Music is the life-blood of this church.” Recently I was told by my mentor, “Here in Texas, all homeowners know the importance of their foundation, and one of the best ways to prevent foundation problems is to keep the soil around their homes moist. Music is the moisture of the church. It keeps us focused on the foundation, Jesus Christ.”
We strive for excellent and heartfelt music at South Hills Baptist Church, in order to fulfill the direction of our Church: Loving God, Growing Disciples, Serving Others. In worship, we actively and lovingly respond to God’s glory by singing of his character and deeds. The songs we sing help grow us into disciples as we sing songs to one another for mutual encouragement and accountability. Finally, our singing can be a witness to others, as we endeavor to accurately represent Christ in song to those who have not encountered him in a life-changing way.
The apostle Paul, in both Ephesians 5 and Colossians 3, advises Christians to utilize a variety of music (psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs) when they meet. I take that command very seriously when choosing music for our worship services. It is so important to find the right balance of music that is new and old, familiar and unfamiliar, traditional and contemporary. I look forward to worshiping with you when we gather.

WORSHIP CHIOR

All those who call South Hills their home church are invited to sing in the Worship Choir. Our aim is to lead the congregation to respond to the all-surpassing greatness of God. This choir, composed of all ages, practices each Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. in room 100. During this time, we prepare music to be presented in worship each Sunday morning and our upcoming seasonal presentation. Music reading ability is helpful, but not required. If you have a song in your heart, know that you are welcome to join us. There is no audition, and you may join at any time.
HANDBELL CHIOR

Romans 12:4-5 says “Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” The SHBC Handbell Choir is acutely aware of this concept, not only as it applies to the Body of Christ, but also to the playing of handbells. Each member of the Handbell Choir has an important role to play in each piece of music we share with the congregation. We rehearse each Sunday afternoon, 1:15-2:30 p.m. in room 100. If you wish to join us, or just attend a rehearsal to learn more about handbells feel free to drop by.
DRAMA TEAM
Everyone likes to be entertained! The drama teams at South Hills do our best to take the congregation from a place of spectatorship to active engagement. We want to please God, not people (Galatians 1:10) so we use breif dramas to illustrate and apply God's word to everyday life. When the holy spirit uses drama to engage people's minds, hearts, and will (whether just through humor or rebuke) we have done our best to please God. If you would like to be involved or learn more about the drama teams, please contact Aaron. We practice 3 - 4 weeks before each drama skit.
